VORRA OPENS 2010 RACE SEASON WITH NEW CLASS FOR STOCK VWs

Class 11 Stock Bugs offers an affordable entree to off road racing

January 31, 2010,  Reno, Nevada -- The Valley Off Road Racing Association (VORRA) announced today that it is adding a new class for Stock Volkswagen Beetles for the 2010 race season.

The first race of the season will be on Sunday at Prairie City on the weekend of March 20 & 21 at the Prairie City SVRA near Rancho Cordoba and Highway 50. The race typically draws more than 50 teams from all over California, Oregon and Nevada.

"VW Beetles are one of the most popular cars for off road racing and Stock Bugs are a great way for anyone to get a taste of racing without breaking the bank,' said VORRA Director Wes Harbor. "We pride ourselves on making racing accessible to everyone and there's no better way to do it than getting out on the course in a Stock Bug."

Four teams have already committed to racing in Stock Bug class. Desert Dingo Racing from Felton and Silicon Valley, Calif. has raced the Baja 1000 three times and just completed its first full season of racing in the Southern Nevada Off Road Racing Enthusiasts (SNORE). Team Desert Dawgs is based in Coloma, Calif., raced its first VORRA race in June 2007 and "Races the West for Homeless Pets" in support of Petfinder.com. Garry Harrod and Cody Dynes of Two Larrys Racing competed in their first race as part of the SNORE series in 2009 and are known for their bright green Bug. Bob Messer and his team will also join the action.

"We love racing Stock Bug because Bugs are all but indestructible and the fans love them," said Desert Dingo crew chief Richard Palasik. "VORRA is ideal because it's close to the Bay Area, they have a variety of courses and everyone helps each other out. It's like a big racing family."

"Building a Class 11 stock bug seemed a fair enough and simple, inexpensive investment," said Two Larrys Racing co-founder Gary Harrod. "We've enjoyed the experience of building a competitive Class 11 and are looking for finish. Hail 2010!"

VORRA will run four short course races at Prairie City, along with three desert races in Fallon, Yerington and Hawthorne, Nevada. The VW teams are planning "Bug Invasion I", tentative set for the April short course race at Prairie City.
